In some ways, like the too big too fail/prosecute banks, the drug search and seizure allowances, the military industrial complex nonsense with billions of dollars of useless military equipment, etc. we are creeping towards a fascist state, but hopefully the pendulum will swing back the other way before things get as bad as the alarmists proclaim.

Unemployment is anathema to fascist states. If we lived in one, we would be having conscription for the military and whoever was not drafted for the military would be drafted in work battalions. So no, we are not drifting towards a fascist state.

If anything we are becoming a banana republic with a military and police designed to keep the upper class protected from the exploited class.
